For the past years i have been conquering beaches and islands thus the hashtag island girl and beach bum has been associated with me for those who know me but it is also in my bucket list, among others, to drive a plane. I’ve been riding commercial planes and even before the plane took off i am already fast asleep because i have motion sickness. Poor me. But that won’t stop me from ticking out flying a plane in my bucket list.
It was just a normal day going to work, i used to live in Mactan so my travel time is quite long, I heard over the radio that Airworks Aviation Academy is offering a summer class they called Flying 101. I called up the Aviationworks Academy and inquired about the class. You can choose among the class schedule that they have. There is a classroom training for 2 days and then the most exciting part which is the actual flying.
The classroom training was very informative. They taught us the basic principles in flying, aerodynamics, rules and regulations and navigation. We were 7 in our class, some of our classmates flew to Cebu just to take the course, one from Tacloban and one from General Santos City. There was even a high school student that also attended the crash course and i said to myself that this boy is so lucky to have the resources needed for him to be able to make flying a plane possible at a very young age.
The teachers were very knowledgeable and relayed each topics with ease and on terms that we understood.
The topics were very interesting. We had a 1 hour break and took our lunch at the school canteen wherein you can mingle with the regular students and pilots/teachers.
The day has come that it was our time to the actual flying. We were instructed to be there before 5 in the morning.
When we arrived, they were preparing the plane and the routine engine check up.
Landed safely back at Mactan with happy memories and the best flying experience from Aviation Works Academy.
It was indeed a worthwhile and exhilarating experience and i am so glad that i took this summer crash course. My take on this experience is that, it is like catching a lifelong dream, it seems almost impossible but all you have to do is take the first step and just really, really do it. The two days classroom training made me think that it was so hard to actually let a plane fly by myself. I doubted myself if i can do it and when i did, it was priceless! Just like chasing your dreams, there may be obstacles along the way but all you have to do is get out of your comfort zone and chase that dream.
So the only tip that i want to share on this blog is from one of my favorite life inspiration and author, THE Paulo Coehlo and i quote him:
“One day, you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Do it now.”
